The Korean War Veterans Memorial was authorized by Public Law 99-572 on Oct. 28, 1986. It was to honor members of the United States Armed Forces who served in the Korean War. It was particularly those who were killed in action, are still missing inaction, or were held as prisoners of war. 33741 Americans died in the korean war.
The Korean War Memorial is in West Potomac Park, which is southeast of the Lincoln Memorial. It was created on July,14 1992, which is Flag day. Its important because it represents all those who lost their lives helping the Korean war effort. George Bush was the conductor of the meaningful project. The memorial has 19 statues made of steel. They are all in between 7 inches and 3-6 inches. Each statue weighs almost 1,000 pounds. In the middle there is the Pool of Remembrance which lists all those killed, wounded, missing in action, or held as prisoners.

President Bill Clinton and South Korean President Kim Young Sam dedicated the memorial on July 27, 1995. the scultures are 7′3 tall.

She wasn’t anyone special, or an architect. There was a contest, which was who’s design would be the best, and her idea won. Thus, this amazing memorial was born.
